Do you know your true worth? Have you ever stopped to think about simple occurrences in your day to day life and how those simple to you gestures might have made a world of difference to another's life?
I hadn't either, until one day many years ago when I was working merchandising in one of the big supermarkets. People would come by and I would greet them with a smile and a hello, how are you today etc? One particular lady I had worked with many years before this particular day, came in and as usual I greeted her with a smile and a warm hello. I noticed she seemed a bit subdued so I inquired a little deeper and asked if she was okay, and I was stunned by her reply. This lovely lady began to tell me a little about herself and her reason for coming to the store on that occasion. She said ' I have had cancer now for quite some time and I had come to a place where I could not go on a moment longer.' She continued by saying, 'I came in today to purchase some envelopes for the letters I have written to people before I went home... you see I had decided to take my own life ... it's just too hard I couldn't do it any more.' As I was trying to take it all in she continued, saying 'When I walked in and here you were with your lovely smile and greeting inquiring as to how I felt, I began to think here is one person who cares and if there is one maybe there are others.' After a little further conversation with her she left to go on her way, I was stunned by her remarks. However, it certainly made me realize that something that is simple and easy for us to give to another can mean a great deal to them and most times we do not realize how far reaching that simple gesture can be. I have never forgotten the impact this had on me that day. After leaving the store that day to continue my rounds, I felt urged to go to the Dollars & Sense store opposite the supermarket not knowing why but feeling compelled. I walked in and just glanced around and here in front of me was a poem about a 'Smile', the first paragraph of which brought tears to my eyes. The thing that goes the furthest toward making life worthwhile, That costs the least and does the most.... is just a pleasing smile; The smile that bubbles from the heart, that loves it's fellow-men, will drive away the clouds and gloom and bring the sun again. There is no room for sadness..... When we see a cheery smile, It always has the same good luck it's never out of style, It spurs us on to try again when failure makes us blue, The dimples of encouragement are good.... for me and you. Author Unknown So the next time you wonder about your self-worth and whether you might make a difference to this world..... I ask you to remember this message because you may not be lucky enough to know the difference you make, I was very fortunate to be told. These experiences have a habit of happening out of the blue! Hello, my name is Marnee; I have something to share with you that I think you will find uplifting, an experience that happened to me in 1999. If there is one gift that I can offer you it is to always listen to your intuition, your gut instincts and now I will explain why.
It all started one Saturday morning when I decided to visit the local bookstore, in my mind only to browse, not spend money. As I walked in I noticed there were rows of tables with books for sale, the first book I picked up looked very interesting, I held onto it and then came across some children’s books for my grandchildren. I chastised myself and reminded me that I was only there to browse, I put the children’s books down, but as I went to put back the first book I found I had difficulty doing so. Knowing this feeling I looked at the price and it was only $3.95, so I paid for the book and left the store. Over the next two days I read the entire book which was called “Emissary of Light” by James Twyman. When I went into work on the Monday I couldn’t help myself I told my colleagues and friends about what I had read, everyone wanted to read my book. The next request was, are there more available? I ended up purchasing over eighty books and sold every one of them. About a week later, a man came into the place I worked; he asked to speak to my boss. I explained to him my boss was overseas, he had left me in charge while he was gone; therefore he could speak to me about whatever it was. He proceeded to tell me he had invited some speakers from overseas to present some talks, after we had arranged things I asked if he knew James Twyman then he told me he had read the same book I had and that James was coming to Australia in the September. Lucien proceeded to tell me James had sent out a copy of another fifty pages of information, things that had happened just after publication that related to his experience. Lucien offered to fax over this copy, he also gave me the contact for James’ manager here in Australia. Lucien was as good as his word, I received the fax later that afternoon and before I went home that day I read the entire fifty pages. I decided to phone my boss in England there and then, luckily it was morning there and he was up and about and able to take my call. I filled him in on the details and his response was “Marnee, I left you in charge in my absence and if you believe this is something that will be good for the centre then go ahead and organise it with my blessing.” To say I was stunned was an understatement; I felt I was standing outside of my body watching all of this unfold before me. Everything step by step was falling into place and all because I had listened to and acted on the feeling that drew me to knowing I needed to buy that book. It was from there the energy just began to build. The following day I rang James Twyman’s manager in Byron Bay the lady I spoke to said yes James is due to come to Australia in September and yes we will be happy to come to your centre and do a presentation. We worked out the details, James would play his guitar and sing his latest songs, speak to everyone about his journey to places around the world where there was war, how he had gone to do his Peace Prayers in those places. All was arranged now I needed to get the word out, we advertised him coming to the centre for the three months prior to his visit. Days came and went and the numbers grew, people asking did we have any more copies of his book. Unfortunately for those looking for his book now had to look elsewhere. I had exhausted the supplies from the company I had purchased the original book from; they had no more in stock. By the time the evening came we had booked over two hundred people and our presentation room was booked to capacity. My boss rang from England to wish us all the best, he was amazed but pleased. James arrived with Anna his manager; he was looking forward to his presentation and pleased to see so many had come. The evening was such a wonderful experience with James telling us of some truly amazing experiences he had experienced first-hand in a remote part of Bosnia where he met a group of monks praying for peace. He told us about fleeing the invading army and how he and others were told to lay in the long grass and remain still and not make a sound. The army walked past them and he said he had no idea how they weren’t seem or captured. He went to other places in that war torn area and experienced seeing Mother Mary. He saw her in the faces of many people even children. He was being guided to do the work he was there to do. It was truly a beautiful and most moving story. If you ever get the chance to read the book you can’t help but be affected by his story. There you have it from listening to that call, that knowing, following that feeling one thing led to another, Lucien coming just at that time, my boss being overseas. Everything came together and the energy built until James being there was a reality. I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. So the next time you have that little voice speak to you please listen to it and so long as you are safe follow it. With Love Marnee :) |
